COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is hosting a pep rally prior to the women’s basketball game against Wofford on Sun., Nov. 19, to support its Canned Food Drive as part of the Palmetto Series. The event outside Colonial Life Arena, which begins at noon, will include food trucks and local restaurants selling food as well as a silent auction. Proceeds from the event as well as canned food donations that fans bring to the game will go to local food banks.

Each year, South Carolina and Clemson team up to tackle hunger in their respective communities by collecting non-perishable food items and monetary contributions to donate to Harvest Hope Food Bank and Golden Harvest Food Bank.

At Sunday’s pep rally, food trucks and local restaurants are partnering with SAAC to sell food and to donate a portion of the proceeds to the Gamecocks monetary donation to the food banks. The silent auction will offer fans an opportunity to bid on a private dinner with a head coach, a player-guided tour of an athletic facility, Gamecock apparel and autographed memorabilia.
