Carolina Signee Henderson Tabbed Semifinalist For National Honor

Feb. 8, 2018

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball 2018 signee Destanni Henderson has been tabbed a semifinalist for the Naismith National Girls’ High School Player of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday.

The guard is one of 10 remaining candidates for the national honor. The finalists for the award will be unveiled on Feb. 19, and winner will be announced on March 7. The National Naismith High School All-America team will be revealed two days earlier on March 5.

Henderson, a native of Lehigh Acres, Fla., is the top-ranked point guard and No. 9 overall prospect in the 2018 class. The McDonald’s All-America selection and two-time News-Press Fort Myers Player of the Year (2016, 2017) helped lead Fort Myers High School to back-to-back state titles. Henderson, who earned a bronze medal while competing at the 2016 FIBA U17 World Cup, is averaging 15.8 points, 5.9 assists and 5.2 rebounds in her senior season at Fort Myers.

The No. 7/8 Gamecocks return to action Thursday when they face Alabama on the road in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET, and the contest will air on SEC Network.
