HUMBLE, Texas — Senior Keenan Huskey dominated the final round on Sunday at the All-American Intercollegiate, shooting a bogey free 65 (-7) en route to medalist honors and his fourth career victory. The Greenville, S.C., native, set a tournament scoring record carding a three-day total of 201 (-15).

Huskey went toe-to-toe with one of the best golfers in the country on Sunday in Ole Miss’ Braden Thornberry, the defending NCAA Individual Champion who is currently ranked second in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Thornberry also shot 65 today, but it was not enough as Huskey held on for the two-shot victory.

With today’s victory, Huskey is now tied with All-Americans Matt NeSmith (2012-16) and Carl Paulson (1990-93) for second on the all-time tournament wins list at South Carolina.

As a team, the Gamecocks shot 279 (-9) to finish fourth in a solid field of nationally ranked programs with a final three-day tally of 843 (-21). Carolina finished seven shots in front of No. 13 Wake Forest and six shots ahead of host school Houston. No. 9 Auburn (822, -42) ran away with the team race winning by 16 strokes over No. 6 Baylor (838, -26). Ole Miss took third after posting the round of the day, a 14-under 274.

Junior Scott Stevens, a 2017 All-SEC and PING All-Southeast Region selection, carded a 70 (-2) today to finish T-25th at 3-under. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native, has six consecutive rounds of par or better in competition dating back to the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic in November. Freshman Andrew Spiegler had a nice finish to his first career spring event, shooting a 1-under 71 on Sunday. Sophomore Jamie Wilson was the other counting score at 1-over. He was 2-under through 13 holes, but a pair of bogeys hurt him down the stretch. Senior Ben Dietrich fired a 74 (+2) after shooting under par the first two rounds. The Bluffton, S.C., native, finished T-35th at 1-under.

Huskey’s 15-under 201 marks a new career low at South Carolina. He is now tied with All-Americans Will Starke (2015 Palmetto Intercollegiate) and George Bryan IV (2009 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate) for the fourth-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The 2017 All-American was impressive this week, leading the field with 18 birdies and carding just three bogeys the entire tournament.

NOTABLE

Keenan Huskey is now tied for the second most wins in program history. He won twice as a sophomore during the historic 2015-16 season and once last season. Three-time All-American Kyle Thompson, who is currently playing on the PGA TOUR, is the all-time wins leader for the Gamecocks.
The 2017 All-American’s last win came when he tied for first at the 2016 Camden Collegiate Invitational. Huskey is now T-8th in program history with seven career top-five finishes and 14 career top-10s.
Huskey and Scott Stevens, who have been staples in the lineup the last three seasons, are now tied for the team lead with seven rounds in the 60s during the 2017-18 season. They’ve started every tournament for the Gamecocks the past two seasons.
Carolina has now finished fourth or better in six all-time appearances at the All-American Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks have finished in the top-five in five of their six events during the 2017-18 season.
This week, Carolina finished fourth in the field with 54 birdies and third with 182 pars.

UP NEXT

The Gamecocks take a few weeks off before teeing it up again at the General Hackler Championship on March 10-11 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The tournament, hosted by Coastal Carolina, will mark a stretch of four events in four weeks for South Carolina to finish its regular season in March.
