South Carolina senior Gabriel Friedrich took home a top-40 win over Georgia Tech’s Carlos Divar in the Gamecocks’ victory over the Yellow Jackets on Sunday. The Gamecocks dropped the doubles point, but battled back to go 4-2 in singles en route to the 4-3 victory.

Down 1-0 after the #1 and #2 doubles matches went to the Yellow Jackets by matching 6-4 scores, No. 95 Yancy Dennis shifted the momentum for the Gamecocks with the first singles point in his take down of Phillip Gresk 6-3, 6-2 at #3. Wood Benton followed up with another win, taking the lead for South Carolina with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chris Yun at #6.

Paul Jubb topped Andrew Li in the #2 spot in the lineup 6-2, 6-4 to take the third singles point and increase South Carolina’s lead to 3-1.

No. 109 Friedrich came through with an upset over No. 39 Divar at #1 to clinch the match for the Gamecocks, outscoring the Yellow Jacket 6-4, 6-3.

In the #5 spot, Harrison O’Keefe got off to a slow start, losing the first set 6-1 to Michael Kay. O’Keefe fought back in set two, stretching the set to a tiebreak, which he won to force a third-set super tiebreak. Kay outlasted O’Keefe in the super tiebreak to finish with a score of 6-1, 6-7, 1-0 (4).

Thomas Mayronne was the final Gamecock to finish singles at #4, pushing deep into both sets before falling to Georgia Tech’s Elijah Melendez with a final score of 7-5, 7-5.
