AWENDAW, S.C. — South Carolina finished strong on Tuesday at the 2018 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate with a final round 278 (-10), placing ninth in the team standings. The Gamecocks were paced by 5-under 67s from junior Scott Stevens and sophomore Jamie Wilson.

Stevens was lights out with five birdies during his bogey free round today. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native, shot 2-under on the front nine (35) and 3-under (32) on the back. Stevens, a 2017 All-SEC and PING All-Southeast Region selection, finished T-9th with a three-day total of 212 (-3). It marked his fifth top-10 finish of the 2017-18 season and his first this spring.

Wilson led the team with six birdies on Tuesday. Four of them came on the front nine where he shot 2-under (35). The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native, who was playing back home this week, was bogey free down the stretch with a trio of red numbers.

Senior Keenan Huskey found his groove again with a 1-under 71 in the final round today. The Greenville, S.C., native, began the day bogey free with four birdies through 11 holes. He finished the tournament with a team-high 18 birdies. Huskey and Wilson each finished T-35th.

Junior Will Miles was the final counting score of the day, shooting 1-over (73). The Hilton Head Island, native, was bogey free with a pair of birdies the first 10 holes. He was 1-under for his round before a tough double-bogey on the par-4 16th hole. Miles finished T-47th at 5-over. Freshman Andrew Spiegler shot 75 (+3) in the final round to finish T-64th (+10).

Fellow SEC school Ole Miss fended off Kent State for a one-shot win in the team standings, snapping Carolina’s streak of the three consecutive tournament championships at the Hootie at Bulls Bay. The Rebels shot a field-best 269 (-19) in the final round to finish with a three-day total of 841 (-23). 2017 NCAA Champion Braden Thornberry of Ole Miss took home medalist honors with a 66 (-6) in round three to finish 13-under overall.

I still see us making the same mistakes, and you can’t compete with the top teams in the field that way. It was nice to see Jamie and Scotty play well today, but overall it was a very disappointing defense of our title.”

ROUND CHANGER Jamie Wilson

Wilson’s 67 Tuesday set a new season-best (previous was 69 in R2 of The Jackrabbitt on 10/2/17). The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native, was one stroke shy of matching a career-best 66 from the final round of stroke play at the 2017 SEC Championship last spring. It marked Wilson’s fifth round of par or better this season and the 15th of his career.

Keenan Huskey‘s under par round gives him a team-high 16 this season. Scott Stevens‘ 67 marked his 15th round of par or better in 2017-18.
Stevens’ top-10 finish gives him 15 for his career, tying him for eighth all-time at South Carolina with Huskey.

UP NEXT

Carolina wraps up its regular season next weekend at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The first 36 holes will be played on Saturday, March 31 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Easter Sunday. The Gamecocks will be off until the SEC Championship on April 25-29 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
