AUGUSTA, Ga. — South Carolina posted a 286 (-2) in the final round of the 2018 3M Augusta Invitational on Easter Sunday, taking seventh place in its final event of the 2017-18 regular season. Senior Keenan Huskey (68, -4), junior Will Miles (71, -1) and junior Scott Stevens (72, E) all shot par or better to lead the Gamecocks in round three.

Huskey, a 2017 Honorable Mention Golfweek All-American, made the turn at even par today. He played lights out golf down the stretch posting a 4-under 32 on the back nine with three birdies in his final four holes to finish the tournament T-9th (4-under). The Greenville, S.C., native, just missed an eagle putt on 18 after driving the green. He had just one bogey all round and it came on the hardest hole on the golf course, the par-4 third.

Miles shot 1-under for the second consecutive day to finish the tournament at even par (T-25th). He made the turn at 2-over and like Huskey, was lights out down the stretch carding a bogey free 3-under 33.

Stevens was 1-under for his round before a bogey on the par-3 16th. He made par on 17 and just missed a birdie putt on 18 after setting himself up with a great bump-and-run chip. Stevens T-17th overall at 2-under for the tournament.

Sophomore Caleb Proveaux shot 75 (+3) and was the final counting score of the day for Carolina. He made four birdies shooting 2-over on the front (38), and 1-over on the back (37). The Lexington, S.C. native finish the tournament at 13-over (67th). Fellow sophomore Jamie Wilson, fresh off an even par 72 in the second round, shot 76 (+4) today to finish the tournament at 8-over (T-58th).

No. 13 Illinois, who led by six shots headed into today, shot a field-best 275 (-13) in the final round en route to a 15-shot win. The Illini finished the tournament at 25-under (839). Dylan Meyer of Illinois, the wire-to-wire leader, shot another 69 today to finish the tournament at 11-under, winning by one shot over Tennessee’s Lorenzo Scalise. It’s Meyer’s second straight win at the event and it granted him an exemption into the 2019 Valspar Championship on the PGA TOUR next spring.

ROUND CHANGER Keenan Huskey

Huskey notched his first round in the 60s today since his opening round 69 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate last week. He and Scott Stevens are tied for the team lead this season with nine rounds in the 60s. They also are tied for the team lead with 19 rounds of par or better. Today marked Huskey’s team-high fifth top-10 of the 2017-18 season. Three of those have come this spring, including his fourth career win at the 2018 All-American Intercollegiate (Feb. 16-18).

Keenan Huskey is eighth all-time at South Carolina with his 16th career top-10 this week in Augusta. He led the team with 13 birdies.
Huskey (13), Scott Stevens (11), Will Miles (10) and Jamie Wilson (10) all posted double digit birdies, as South Carolina T-5th in the field this week with 50 red numbers.
Miles T-3rd in the field in par-4 scoring average (3.90, -3) and Stevens T-3rd in the field in par-5 scoring average (4.42, -7).

UP NEXT

The Gamecocks will be off until the SEC Championship on April 25-29 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. It’ll be the same format as last season with 54-hole stroke play followed by eight-team match play to determine the conference champion. The championship match will be aired live on SEC Network on Sunday, April 29. It marks the 18th year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be contested at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course.
