Gamecock Volleyball to Host Free Coaches Clinic
April 3, 2018
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina volleyball coaching staff is holding a free coaches clinic on Saturday, April 14 at the Carolina Volleyball Center. The day-long event will feature educational programs hosted by the coaches of South Carolina and Winthrop, and also will feature a scrimmage between the Gamecocks and Eagles as part of their regular spring exhibition season.
“We are excited to put this free coaches clinic on with Winthrop University,” said Tom Mendoza, who was named the program’s head coach on Jan. 3. “Volleyball in this region has continued to become more nationally competitive at all ages and that’s in large part due to the high-quality coaching young athletes are receiving.”
The clinic begins at 9 a.m. with educational sessions from each coaching staff on defense and blocking, followed by demonstrations from the student-athletes. The afternoon session will focus on serve and serve reception, along with offensive systems. The Gamecocks and Eagles will then scrimmage at 2 p.m. and the clinic will close with a question-and-answer session.
“We want to do our part in helping grow the game, and I think this clinic will be a great opportunity for coaches to share ideas on training, technique, and strategy,” Mendoza added. “Hopefully, coaches of any age level will learn at least a few new ideas and collectively we all leave as better coaches for our athletes.”
Registration is open now by following THIS LINK, but will close at noon on April 12. For more information on the clinic, contact Director of Operations Megan Mendoza at 803-777-0755. All camps are open to any and all entrants, only limited by number, age, grade or gender.
