Friedrich Named First-Team All-SEC; Jubb Earns Second-Team Honors

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina men’s tennis senior Gabriel Friedrich earned All-SEC honors for the third time in his career after being named First-Team All-SEC, the conference office announced today. Sophomore Paul Jubb was also named Second-Team All-SEC making the awards the 12th and 13th all-conference honors for men’s tennis under Head Coach Josh Goffi.
No. 40 Friedrich (23-13, 15-10 SEC) has six wins over ranked opponents this season playing out of the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions. He earns first team all-conference honors for the first time in his career after being named Second-Team All-SEC each of the last two seasons. Friedrich, who reached a career-best No. 24 singles ranking last month, also owns a 17-8 doubles record on the year.
Friedrich was named SEC Player of the Week back on Mar. 7 after opening conference play with a win over the 12th-ranked doubles team in the country and pair of ITA top-25 wins in singles play.
Jubb (22-9, 9-2 SEC), currently the 59th-ranked singles player in the country, also has six ranked wins on the season and owns a 17-4 record in dual-match play. Jubb tied for the second-most wins (9) in an SEC season in program history and posted a 14-3 record on the season out of the Gamecocks’ No. 2 singles spot.
Jubb earned SEC Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career back on April 9, one day after cracking the ITA top 125 for the first time, after defeating the eighth-ranked singles player in the country.
Friedrich earned at-large selections into the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships while Jubb was named as the third alternate for this year’s NCAA Singles Championship field.
As a team, the Gamecocks will make their 24th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament next week as they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on Old Dominion in the round of 64 on Sat., May 12, at 11 a.m.
