March 31, 2003
Columbia, S.C.- –
The South Carolina Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host a charity softball game to benefit Heartworks Ministry, a local after-school program, on Sunday April 13. The event will follow the 1:00 p.m. Carolina vs. Florida softball game at Beckham Field.
USC student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni and local celebrities are expected to participate. Open to the public, friends, family and supporters of the USC Athletic Dept. are encouraged to attend.
In addition to the softball game, food, a silent auction, several raffles and youth activities including facepainting, games and a visit from Cocky, will be on hand to provide a great family outing for all.
The event is a function of SAAC and the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, which is designed to help student-athletes bridge the gap between participating in intercollegiate athletics and experiencing the culture of campus life. The program helps emphasize the overall development of student-athletes in academic excellence, personal development, career development and community service.
