USC Athletics Department Involved In Successful Foot Clinic
Next Step Foot Clinic held to promote foot care for area men and women

Dec. 18, 2003

COLUMBIA, S.C. –
The University of South Carolina Athletics Department was part of Tuesday’s Next Step Foot Clinic, a program to promote foot care for area men and women.

Dr. Rod Walters, USC Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, along with Dr. Thomas Armsey, USC team physician, and volunteers from the Columbia Chiropractic Center examined more than 25 men and women and provided new socks and shoes if needed. Red Wing Shoe Store donated re-soled work boots.

“This program is something we have done for several years and provides opportunities for local professionals to offer medical care for those less fortunate in the Columbia area,” said Walters. “For some, their feet are their best mode of transportation and if they have foot problems, they are not very effective. This is a chance for us to treat any medical conditions associated with that and give people some warm socks and good shoes.”

Others from USC Athletics participating in the program were men’s golf head coach Puggy Blackmon, former men’s golf assistant coach Rachel Bates, and academic counselors Collin Crick and Mike Moody.

The Next Step Foot Clinic was held from 5-9 p.m., Tuesday night at Christ Central Ministries on Main Street in Columbia.
