Jewel May rejoined the athletics department in September 2016 and serves as an academic advisor for softball, volleyball, beach volleyball, and men’s swimming & diving.
A native of Conyers, Ga., May was a three-year starter and team captain for the South Carolina women’s basketball team under Dawn Staley, appearing in 118 games for the Gamecocks. She graduated in 2011 as a double major in psychology and sociology with a minor in studio art. At the conclusion of her a senior year, May was honored with the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women’s Enhancement Post-Graduate Scholarship and the SEC’s Brad Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship.
Upon graduation, May took a job as a graduate assistant at South Carolina in the life skills program while pursuing an Ed.S in counselor education. She went on to work at Texas A&M as the life skills coordinator and advised the women’s sprinters and 800m groups of the track & field teams from 2013 to 2016.
May is a member of N4A and is a Safe Zone Ally. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her pets, crafting and coaching youth basketball teams.
