The South Carolina men’s soccer team, a 20-time NCAA Tournament participant, collected the 2005 and 2010 Conference USA Tournament title, and was the 2011 C-USA Regular Season Co-Champion. The team is led by longtime head coach Mark Berson, who enters his 35th season at the helm of the program in 2012, and he is assisted by Bert Molinary and Mike Babst. The Gamecocks play in Stone Stadium, one of the premier venues in college soccer across the nation. In its history, the South Carolina men’s soccer program has had 11 individual All-Americans, 43 individual student-athletes that have collected a total of 66 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region honors, 16 individuals who have received national academic recognition, and over 40 players who have been drafted into various professional soccer leagues across the country. Men’s soccer became a varsity sport at South Carolina in 1978, and under the leadership of Berson, the program’s only head coach in its history, has developed into a nationally prominent program. The squad most recently advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2010 NCAA Tournament after earning the No. 7 national seed, and followed in 2011 with its 20th appearance in the postseason event. The South Carolina men’s soccer program enters its 35th season of competition in 2012.
