Shawn Burke, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, has served as assistant athletics director for operations and event management at the University of South Carolina since 2001. Prior to his promotion, Burke was director of events at South Carolina from 1997-2000.
Burke began his career with the Gamecock athletics department as an intern with the Olympic Sports from 1985-87. During that time, he served as the tournament director for numerous Metro Conference Championships. Among them were the men’s and women’s swimming and diving championships, women’s basketball championship, men’s golf, and the men’s and women’s tennis championships. He then joined the University of Dayton as the events coordinator for the UD Arena from 1987-88. While at Dayton, Burke supervised the overall operation of the football stadium and basketball arena along with facility scheduling and payroll.
He rejoined USC as assistant ticket manager from 1988-92 and in 1992, Burke was promoted to assistant business manager. The following year, he was promoted to assistant business and ticket manager/game management director. Burke served in that capacity until 1997.
While in college at Ohio University, Burke lettered in tennis three years and was all-conference his final season. After his college playing days were over, Burke was a tennis professional for one year at Wickertree Tennis Club in Columbus, Ohio. He then went back to Ohio University to earn his Master’s degree is Sports Administration and Facility Management in 1985. Burke also is a 1995 graduate of the Sports Management Institute.
Burke and his wife, Dana, have three sons: Connor, Dylan and Kyle.
