Maya McCoy joined the University of South Carolina athletics department as a learning specialist and academic advisor just prior to the 2008-09 academic year. She advises both the men’s and women’s tennis teams, and works with students of all sports in her work as a learning specialist.
She came to South Carolina after spending one year at East Tennessee State University as a learning specialist and tutorial coordinator. From 2005 to 2007, she was a special education teacher, transition linkage coordinator and head cheerleading coach for The New York Harbor School.
McCoy earned a Bachelor of Arts in both sociology and international studies from Michigan State University in 2003. From there, she went on to obtain a Master of Science in sport administration from Florida State University in 2004 and then earned a Master of Education in secondary special education from Brooklyn College in 2007.
McCoy worked in the athletics marketing offices at both Michigan State and Florida State while earning degrees there. Originally from Los Angeles, McCoy is a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics.
