Four Gamecocks Named WGCA All-American Scholars

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four South Carolina women’s golfers have been named 2017-18 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon. Junior Marion Veysseyre and sophomores Lois Kaye GoAna Pelaez and Anita Uwadia each earned the distinction.

The 2017-18 All-America Scholar Team includes 1,011 women’s collegiate golfers who maintained at least a 3.50 GPA. For the Gamecocks, this year marks the second selection for Veysseyre, Pelaez and Uwadia.

Veysseyre finished the 2017-18 season with a 73.9 average over 29 rounds. She was the team’s top finisher at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, taking 22nd place with a three-round score of 222 (+9). In the 2018 SEC Championship, she finished 13th in stroke play and went on to win both her semifinal and final rounds of match play to help the Gamecocks to the team championship.

Go was a steady force in the Gamecock lineup, posting six top-20 finishes and the team’s second-best scoring average at 72.45, which is the fourth-best single-season mark in program history. Her third-place showing at the Bryan National Collegiate was the best of her career.

Pelaez played in 10 tournaments in 2017-18, finishing as high as 15th, which she did at the Florida State Match-Up. She swept all three rounds of match play in the SEC Championship and posted a season-best round of 69 on the final day of the Mason Rudolph Championship.

Uwadia was the team’s best finisher in the season-opening Mason Rudolph Championship, carding a 213 (-3) over three rounds to claim 22nd place. She went on to add three top-20 finishes to her season, including taking 18th in stroke play at the SEC Championship. She shot par or better in 10 of her 29 rounds on the season.

The Gamecocks closed their 2017-18 campaign ranked No. 12 by Golfstat in their 11th season under head coach Kalen Anderson.
