Gamecocks release 2018 fall schedule

Carolina playing in match play event hosted by Jack Nicklaus at Muirfield.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina men’s golf announced its fall schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season on Friday morning. The Gamecocks will play in five events at some of the nation’s top courses in September, October and November.

“I’m excited about our schedule this fall for a number of reasons,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “One, we play a variety of golf courses and two, we have an opportunity to compete in a match play event at Muirfield hosted by Jack Nicklaus.  Our guys will not only be challenged by the quality of the golf courses on our fall schedule, but the strength of field at these events is undoubtedly some of the strongest we’ve taken on.  We are looking forward to the challenge, and I know that playing a schedule of this magnitude will be an important building block toward preparing our team for a successful spring campaign.”

The 2018 fall slate will begin at the Carpet Capital Collegiate (Sept. 7-9) in Rocky Face, Ga. and end at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov. 2-4) in Lahiana, Hawaii for the third consecutive season.

Carolina will head north for two prestigious collegiate events after opening the season at The Farm, first heading to the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational (Sept. 14-16), followed by the Jack Nicklaus Invitational (Oct. 8-9). The Nicklaus tournament, hosted by the 18-time major championship winner, is a new event this year and will be played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. It will feature stroke and match play to determine its champion.

Before heading to Hawaii to finish the fall, the Gamecocks will compete at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 21-23) at Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Carolina made its first and only appearance at the event in the fall of the historic 2015-16 season.
