O’Keefe to Return as Volunteer Assistant Coach

Former First-Team All-SEC selection, Harrison O’Keefe, will return to the Gamecocks men’s tennis program as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2018-19 season

COLUMBIA, S.C.- Former standout South Carolina men’s tennis student-athlete, Harrison O’Keefe, will return to the program as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2018-19 season head coach Josh Goffi announced on Thursday.

“I’m thrilled to be back to help lead this new, young team,” said O’Keefe, a First-Team All-SEC honoree for the Gamecocks in 2017.

“He (O’Keefe) will do an amazing job relating to the players but I’m most excited about the perspective he’ll bring to our coaching staff,” said head coach Josh Goffi. “His insight and reflection of his own experiences during his playing career here are going to allow us to become better coaches and stewards of the program,” said Goffi.

O’Keefe, a 2018 graduate, helped the program reach new heights over the past four seasons, as the Gamecocks posted their first back-to-back top-25 finishes and first back-to-back winning SEC seasons.

On the court, O’Keefe picked up over 150 combined wins and ranks ninth all-time in three-set match wins (22). He finished his career ranked fourth all-time in dual-match wins (117) and is fourth all-time in singles SEC win percentage (.615).

O’Keefe was a member of the 2017 team that posted the Gamecocks’ first 20-win season since 2005 and battled back from injury in 2018 to help lead South Carolina to a second-consecutive round of 32 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

O’Keefe prepares step into the Gamecocks’ volunteer assistant role that had been filled by Pablo Ballagamba over the past two seasons. “Pablo made a big impact on our program and he will be greatly missed but Harrison has decided to join us this year,” remarked Goffi.

“I had so much support as a player during my four years, and now it’s time to give back to this program,” O’Keefe concluded.
