Abby Carroll Named High School Beach Volleyball All-American
The freshman is the fourth Gamecock to ever be honored
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its annual High School Beach All-America Team on Wednesday, and freshman Abby Carroll earned a spot on the second team. The Southlake, Texas native is the fourth Gamecock to earn the national honor.
South Carolina will have three All-Americans on the roster for the 2018-19 season, as Carroll joins juniors Carly Schnieder and Katie Smith, who made the 2016 team. Recent graduate Julia Mannisto made the first-ever team put out by the AVCA, back in 2014.
Playing club for Beach 10K, Carroll won an AAU national championship in 2016 – part of the first duo from Texas to ever win the tournament – and is coming off a 2018 season where she placed third overall at the AAU Junior Olympics. Carroll also earned two letters as a high school indoor volleyball player, helping Southlake Carroll High School win two district titles.
Abby is one of five newcomers to the team this season, joining fellow freshmen Whitley Ballard, Carly Owens, Jordan Smith and graduate transfer Lauryn Gillis. They look to add to a Gamecock squad returning four 20-match winners from last year’s team, which went 24-9 and made the NCAA tournament for the second-straight season.
