Gamecocks Come in at No. 9 in WGCA Preseason Poll
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – South Carolina has been voted as the No. 9 team in the country in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) preseason poll.
The Gamecocks are the third-highest SEC school in the poll, behind last year’s national runner-up Alabama (No. 2) and Arkansas (No. 3).
Last season, the Gamecocks finished 10th in the San Francisco Regional at TPC Harding Park. Rising junior Lois Kaye Go finished just outside the top 25 in the regional (T27). Ana Pelaez and Anita Uwadia, who both return this season, each placed in a tie for 40that the regional.
The Gamecocks bring in two newcomers, Emily Price and Skylar Thompson, to the roster in hopes of returning to the NCAA Championships in 2018-19.
South Carolina’s fall schedule begins later this month. The team will take part in the Annika Intercollegiate Sept. 17-19 in Lake Elmo, Minn. South Carolina will play in a total of four fall tournaments.
