Jubb, Dennis Ranked in Preseason Oracle/ITA Polls
TEMPE, Ariz. – South Carolina junior men’s tennis player Paul Jubb came in ranked No. 27 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Preseason National Rankings as announced by the office Tuesday. He and teammate Yancy Dennis were the 49th-ranked doubles pair in the country in the first rankings release of the 2018-19 season.
Jubb comes in as the No. 27-ranked individual after ending his 2017-18 season with a 24-11 overall singles record, including an impressive 18-5 in dual matches. The Hull, England, native was named the Carolina Region Player to Watch after finishing the season playing at the No. 1 singles spot for the Gamecocks.
Jubb’s top-30 ranking is the highest for a South Carolina men’s tennis player in the preseason poll since All-American Andrew Adams in 2014-15.
In doubles, Dennis and Jubb are seeing their names together in the rankings for the first time in their collegiate careers. Last season, Dennis tallied a doubles record of 21-14, while Jubb finished at 12-9 in doubles play.
Dennis has tallied 55 career doubles wins and has appeared in the NCAA Doubles Championship each of the past two seasons, advancing to the round of 16 last season with partner, Gabriel Friedrich.
This is the third-consecutive season at least one singles and one doubles pair have been ranked in the preseason poll for the Gamecocks. It is also the seventh-straight year an individual or a tandem has appeared in one of the ITA’s preseason polls.
The first team rankings of the 2018-19 season will be released on January 2, 2019.
