Gamecocks Wrap Up ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Seventh

Lake Elmo, Minn. –No. 8 South Carolina women’s golf team completed the third and final round of the 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate, finishing 6-over-par (869) to tie for seventh place in the 12-team tournament.

“Overall, a solid start to the year,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “The ANNIKA had 10 of the top 11 ranked teams in the country. We have a foundation point from which to gain momentum and improve. We have depth from all five positions this year. It was great to see Ana [Pelaez] step up as well as our freshman Skylar [Thompson].”

Junior Ana Pelaez highlighted the final round when she made an impressive eagle on the 452-yard, par-5 18th. She finished the week with a 215 (-1) and in a tie for 21st, narrowly missing the seventh top-20 finish in her South Carolina career. The Malaga, Spain, native carded 12 pars and ended the final round with a two-under, 70.

Junior Lois Kaye Go and freshman Skylar Thompson each finished with a team-high three birdies on Wednesday and wrapped up the week 220 (+4) and 217 (+1), respectively. For Thompson, her third-round 72 was the second best on the team, while Go finished with a 74 on Wednesday.

Anita Uwadia took a 75 into the clubhouse in her final round at the Royal Golf Club to end her week at 221 (+5). Marion Veyssyre was the last Gamecock to finish her final round on Wednesday, carding a solid 1-over-par on the back nine, but a tough front nine saw her post a 78 on the day and 222 (+6) for the week.

South Carolina next competes in the Windy City Invitational starting on Mon., Oct. 1, in Chicago. The two-round tournament will be the first of three events for the Gamecocks in October.
