Gamecocks In Illinois for Windy City Collegiate Classic

Columbia, S.C. – No. 9 South Carolina women’s golf is set to participate on the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Wilmette, Ill., at the Westmoreland Country Club. The tournament is played across two days, starting on Mon., Oct. 1, and ending on Tue., Oct. 2.

“We’re getting ready to compete against another stacked field at the Windy City Collegiate Classic,” South Carolina women’s golf head coach Kalen Anderson said. “This event is new in our fall season, and we’re looking forward to it. It is going to be another great test and we’ll have the same lineup intact as last week.”

The 11th annual tournament returns to Westmoreland Country Club, where the event was last played in 2015. The 54-hole stroke play event features a 36-hole day on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

This year’s field includes Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Iowa State, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, San Diego State, South Carolina and Southern California.

South Carolina is coming off the ANNIKA Intercollegiate where the team finished seventh in a loaded field, which included nine of the current top 10 teams in the country. Junior Ana Pelaez highlighted the opening tournament of the fall, finishing the week with a 215 (-1) and in a tie for 21st, narrowly missing the seventh top-20 finish in her South Carolina career.

Freshman Skylar Thompson finished her opening tournament with the Gamecocks with a 217 (+1), with her second-round 70 as her low-score of the opening tournament.

Last season, South Carolina finished its season at the NCAA Regional in San Francisco. Four Gamecocks return from last season’s lineup, including Lois Kaye Go, who is coming off a gold medal performance at the 2018 Asian Games and a 220 (+4) at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.

Head Coach Kalen Anderson enters her 12th season with the program. She has helped South Carolina appear in eight of the last nine NCAA Championships and has led the Gamecocks to five NCAA Regional titles since 2010.
