Carolina Hosts Texas A&M in Final Home Meet of the Fall

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 8-ranked South Carolina equestrian team is back at One Wood Farm on Friday for an SEC meet, hosting No. 2 Texas A&M at 1 p.m., in Blythewood.

The Gamecocks (1-2, 1-1 SEC) enter the competition against the Aggies (2-0, 0-0 SEC) off a, 10-9, win over No. 2 Georgia on Friday, October 5. Carolina took two of the MOPs, both in Hunter Seat, with freshman Trinity Hammerschmidt honored in equitation on the flat and junior Madison Sellman in equitation over fences.

In Western, junior Caroline Gute won both of her points, being the only Gamecock to go undefeated against the Bulldogs.

“Having a good win against Georgia is certainly something we’re proud of,” head coach Boo Major said. “However, we have to get right back to the drawing board again and work extremely hard and stay focused against a very good Texas A&M team.”

Texas A&M has wins over two Big 12 Conference teams in No. 4 Oklahoma State (12-5) and No. 6 TCU (9-8). Carolina and the Aggies have a competitive history, with A&M leading the overall series, 12-10. The two programs met three times last season, twice in the regular and one in the post, with Texas A&M coming out on top each time, 12-8, 12-6 and 10-9, respectively.

The Gamecocks look to break a five-meet skid against the Aggies, who are competing in their first SEC meet of the season.

“We’re working very hard to continue to get better, to continue to try and eliminate some mistakes that we’ve made,” Major said. “We’re dealing with another hurricane, but it’s going to come and go and everything’s going to be fine. The meet will go on as planned and we’re looking forward to it.”

Admission is free to all fans at One Wood Farm, located at 1201 Syrup Mill Road in Blythewood.
