Jubb Claims ITA Regional Championship
Paul Jubb defeated No. 91 Bar Botzer of Wake Forest 7-6 (2), 6-2 in the ITA Carolina Regional championship on Tuesday, becoming the first Gamecock to win a regional title since 1986.
CARY, N.C.- Paul Jubb, the 27th-ranked singles player in the country, completed his run of dominance at the ITA Carolina Regionals with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win in the ITA Carolina Region singles championship on Tuesday morning.
Jubb is the first Gamecock men’s tennis player to win a region title since Jan Sandberg won the ITCA Rolex Regionals back in 1986.
Jubb was the first Gamecock to reach the championship match of the ITA Regionals since Gabriel Friedrich defeated teammate Thomas Mayronne to advance to the 2016 singles championship.
After finishing with seven ranked wins as a sophomore last season, Jubb has already notched three victories against the ITA Top 125 this fall.
Named Carolina Region Player to Watch after his spring campaign, Jubb advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships last week before dropping just a single set on the way to his regional championship.
The Gamecocks will see a break in their fall competition schedule until the Georgia Tech Invite on Nov. 2-4. Select student-athletes that are eligible will compete for ATP points in the Charlottesville ITF Challenger on Oct. 27-29, as well as the Knoxville ITF Challenger on Nov. 2-4.
