Krzeczowski Breaks Shutout Record in Win over Florida

Columbia, S.C. – No. 12 South Carolina women’s soccer (11-2-0, 5-1-0 SEC) defeated Florida (4-8-3, 2-3-1 SEC) 1-0 on Sunday night thanks to Mikayla Krzeczowski’s record-breaking shutout. 
 
Freshman Selma Sol Magnusdottir put the Gamecocks on top in the first half, and Krzeczowski kept Florida off the board to earn her 32nd career clean sheet, giving her the most in South Carolina women’s soccer history. 
 
“Florida is always a great matchup in the SEC,” South Carolina head coach Shelley Smith said. “We’ve both put ourselves in position the last several years to battle for SEC Championships and top positions in the league. Today was a well-played match between both teams. Something had to give, and Selma did a great job to step up and finish today.”
 
Junior Elexa Bahrset up Magnusdottir’s third game-winning goal of the season, which came at 10:56 with the freshman finishing another impressive strike, this one from just inside the box. 

 
The shutout for Krzeczowski puts her past Mollie Patton on South Carolina’s career shutout list. Krzeczowski needed just 56 matches to pass Patton, who played from 2006 until 2010, and made 136 saves in that span, good enough for the fourth-most in program-history. 
 
“[Krzeczowski] has been an excellent goalkeeper for us for over two years now,” Smith said. “Mikayla’s played with some tremendous teams and has been a big part of our defense from the day she got here as a freshman. She has been set up in the best position to get those shutouts, but those don’t come easy.”

 
Captain Grace Fisk made her impact felt late in the match when she got in front of a shot after Krzeczowski came off her line. Fisk’s match-saving stop at 81:02 is the first time this season the Gamecocks have made a team save. 
 
South Carolina’s impressive run of not allowing a goal in the first half this season continued against the Gators. The Gamecocks are the only team in the SEC to hold all of its opponents scoreless in any one half this season. The win against Florida pushes South Carolina’s home record to 9-0-0 this season, with just one goal being scored against the Gamecocks at Stone Stadium. 
 
South Carolina matched its longest winning streak with the win over Florida. South Carolina has defeated the Gators three-straight times dating back to 2016, and have won four out of the last five meetings.  
 
South Carolina travels to Nashville, Tenn., next Fri., Oct. 12, to take on No. 19 Vanderbilt (12-1-0, 5-0-0 SEC). The Gamecocks have won the last two matches against the Commodores.
