Pair of Gamecocks Capture A-Flight Titles at Wake Forest Invitational

Raphael Lambling and Daniel Rodrigues captured A-flight tournament titles on Sunday while Beau Pelletier finished as a B flight runner up at the Wake Forest Invitational.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- South Carolina men’s tennis had a pair of freshmen, Raphael Lambling and Daniel Rodrigues, capture A flight singles tournament titles on Sunday at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational. Beau Pelletier finished as a b-flight runner up while Lambling and Rodrigues earned third-place in the A3 doubles flight.

Lambling finishes the fall having won eight-consectuive singles matches, after winning Olde Golde singles title at the Georgia Tech Invitational last weekend while Rodrigues heads into the spring with a 14-3 singles record.

A-Flight Singles
Rodrigues captured the A1 singles title with wins over Carson Haskins (IU), Calvo Barcelo (KSU), Theo MacDonald (Kentucky), and Nick Stachowiak (Duke), respectively. Rodrigues won his last three matches of the weekend in straight sets, defeating Stachowiak 6-2, 6-1 in Sunday’s final.

Raphael Lamblling cruised to a 4-0 weekend and an A2 flight title, defeating each of his opponents in straight sets. Lambling’s tournament run was culminated in his 6-1, 6-2 win in Sunday’s final over Brian Cernoch (UNC).

Patrick Cacciatore won a pair of consolation matches over Bob Levine (Duke) and Carson Haskins (IU) following and opening round letdown in the A1 singles flight.

B-Flight Singles
Beau Pelletier reached the championship match of the B1 singles draw, but fell to Kento Yamada (Kentucky), 6-0, 6-1.

Thomas Brown picked up an opening round win in the B2 singles flight over Leo Menezes (UNCC) but was forced to the consolation draw after a second round loss to Steven Sun (Harvard).

Doubles
The Gamecocks European doubles team of Rodrigues and Lambling defeated Williams/Keim, 6-1 in their first-round doubles match but fell to Morrow/Wrzesinski (Harvard) in round two.

Rodrigues and Lambling finished the weekend with a 6-3 win in the A3 flight third-place match.
