NeSmith Secures Web.com Membership at Q-School

Three-time All-American shot final round 65 (-7) to Finish T-6th

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Three-time All-American Matt NeSmith secured conditional status on the Web.com Tour for the 2019 season with a T-6th finish in the Second Stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament over the weekend. He shot the lowest score of the final round at his qualifying site with a 7-under 65 on Sunday.
 
NeSmith shot under par in all four rounds, finishing with a total score of 272 (-16). He was one of 18 players to advance from Southern Hills Plantation Club to the third and final stage of Web.com Tour Q-School, which takes place Dec. 6-9 at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
 
Players who advance to final stage are assured a Web.com Tour card for the following season, with final stage results determining how players are ordered on early-season field lists. The medalists receive fully exempt status for the 2019 Web.com Tour regular season. Finishers 2-10 (and ties) receive exempt status for the first 12 events of the 2019 Web.com Tour regular Season, and will be subject to subsequent reshuffles. Finishers 11-40 (and ties) at final stage will receive exempt status for the first eight events of the 2019 Web.com Tour regular season, and will be subject to subsequent reshuffles (which occur in four-event intervals).
 
NeSmith finished his career at Carolina as one of the most decorated golfers ever in program history. He holds program records for career scoring average (71.65), top-five finishes (14) and top-10s (25). NeSmith also owns the 54-hole tournament record, shooting a 196 en route to medalist honors at the 2015 SEC Championship. He was the first Gamecock in program history to earn PING First Team All-America honors as a senior in 2015-16, helping Carolina to its first NCAA Match Play berth and its best finish ever at the NCAA Championship (T-5th). He was also the 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year, a three-time All-SEC selection (first team in 2015 and 2016) and a two-time GCAA All-American Scholar.
