Gamecocks Rank High In Graduation Success Rate

The University of South Carolina athletics program ranks second in the Southeastern Conference in the latest Graduation Success Rates released by the NCAA on Wednesday.

The Graduation Success Rate measures the number of scholarship student-athletes that graduate within a six-year period of their initial full-time enrollment.

For this report, the rates are based on student-athletes who entered college in the fall of 2011. The rate shows the percentage of student-athletes who earned a degree by the spring of 2017. The four-year cohort of student-athletes who began college in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 is also included.

South Carolina’s athletic teams had a 94 percent GSR score, which is second in the SEC behind only Vanderbilt (97), and second in the state of South Carolina, behind only Wofford (97). Of the over 350 schools in NCAA Division I, South Carolina’s score tied for 46th overall. South Carolina’s Football GSR score (93) also ranked second among SEC schools and second among South Carolina schools behind Vanderbilt and Wofford, respectively.

“Our student-athletes never cease to amaze me,” said Ray Tanner, USC Director of Athletics. “They successfully compete and represent the University of South Carolina with class and integrity. Their commitment to be the best they can be academically and athletically is shown by these scores and on the field results. The Office of Academic Services and Student Development, under the direction of Maria Hickman, does an outstanding job preparing our student-athletes for graduation setting them on a course for lifetime achievement,” added Tanner.

Men’s Basketball, Men’s Golf, Men’s Track and Field, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Golf, Women’s Swimming and Diving, Women’s Tennis, and Volleyball all recorded perfect GSR scores (100).
