Men’s Tennis Inks Two on National Signing Day

Phillip Jordan and Connor Thomson each signed their respective National Letters of Intent to join the South Carolina men’s tennis program on Wednesday as a part of National Signing Day.

COLUMBIA, S.C.- South Carolina men’s tennis Head Coach Josh Goffi announced two additions to the program as the team officially unveiled the 2019 signing class.  Phillip Jordan, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., and Connor Thomson from Glasgow, Scotland both signed their letters of intent to continue playing tennis at Carolina on Wednesday.
 
“Connor and Phillip are great additions to our program,” said Goffi on his 2019 recruiting class. “Both have great work ethic and are highly motivated to get better. [Associate Head Coach] Kyle (Bailey) and I are counting down the days to get these guys on campus and in the mix,” continued Goffi.
 
Thomson, a member of an 18-and-under Great Britain national squad that placed fifth at the European Summer Cup. Thomson, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, has captured one ITF Futures title (Fujairah) with two runner-up finishes in futures events.  Over the past year, he has competed in his first-career ATP challenger as well as the Wimbledon Junior Slam.
 
Jordan, who hails from the Smith-Stearns Tennis Academy, currently has a 249 ITF ranking and is the No. 27 prospect in the class of 2019 according to tennisrecruiting.net.  Rated as a five-star recruit according to tennisrecruiting.net, Jordan has a 10-3 record against fellow five-star prospects and is 12-1 against opponents rated four stars or lower.
 
“Kyle has done a great job leading the recruiting front these past two years. He deserves a lot of the credit for the great recruiting classes we are pulling in,” explained Goffi. 
 
The Gamecocks current roster, consisting of six freshmen and just three upperclassmen, finished a combined 96-41 (.701) in singles matches and 25-19 (.568) in doubles matches throughout their fall tournament slate.  The Gamecocks will now prepare for their dual season, which is set to begin in early January.
