IRVING, Texas — For the second-consecutive year, six South Carolina men’s soccer student-athletes earned Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medals, the league office announced this afternoon. Redshirt freshman Jeff Lu led the Gamecocks’ honorees, earning his second consecutive academic award.
Medals are awarded on an annual basis to student-athletes who maintain a cumulative 3.75 GPA or better in the classroom.
Sophomore Aleksander Bjerke Christensson, sophomore Smith Dawsey, freshman Benjamin Gilligan, freshman Kay In’t Ven and junior Paul Quildies also received medals alongside Lu.
The Gamecocks tied with Old Dominion for the second-most academic medal winners amongst the league’s nine teams. New Mexico led the way with eight selections.
Since joining Conference USA in 2005, Carolina has had five or more players earn academic medals 11 times.
