No. 4 Gamecocks Close Out SEC Action with No. 7 Georgia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team competes in its last SEC and away meet of the season as it hits the road for a meet against Georgia on Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Equestrian Complex in Athens.

Last time out, the Gamecocks (5-5, 1-3 SEC) upset then-ranked No. 2 Georgia (3-5, 2-2 SEC) at One Wood Farm, 10-9, on Oct. 5.

“It’s our last away meet before post season and we just had our first of the semester this past Saturday,” head coach Boo Major said. “Our schedule this season has been a little different and it was hard to switch gears to an away meet last week. It’s always a close meet when we play Georgia and I’m not expecting anything different on Saturday.”

Freshman Grady Lyman is coming fresh off February SEC Rider of the Month honors for Equitation on the Flat. Lyman, who is undefeated on the flat, 4-0, looks to continue her streak against the Bulldogs.

In addition to Carolina’s upset earlier in the season, two of the biggest wins in South Carolina history have come against Georgia: a, 10-10, tiebreaker victory in the 2014 SEC Championships finals and a, 10-6, win in the 2015 NCEA National Championship finals.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend after a, 11-8, loss at Baylor on Feb. 23. Prior to that non-conference competition Georgia hosted and took down Texas A&M, 12-8, earning its second SEC victory of the season.

Live scoring is available for the meet and can be found on the equestrian schedule page on gamecocksonline.com.
