Gamecocks Drop Road Match at 26th-ranked Georgia
ATHENS, Ga.- Paul Jubb improved to 11-2 against nationally ranked opponents this season with a three-set singles win on Sunday, highlighting a team loss for South Carolina men’s tennis (11-5, 1-4 SEC), which fell 5-2 at 26th-ranked Georgia (7-6, 3-2 SEC) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Jubb went 2-0 on the weekend, defeating a pair of ranked opponents in singles matches culminating in a come from behind, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2, win over No. 20 Emil Reinberg on Sunday.
The Gamecocks fall to 1-4 in conference play having dropped each of their three road SEC matches . Carolina fought back from a slow start in doubles but were unable to complete the comeback, dropping a second-straight doubles team point.
After Georgia’s Phillip Henning was forced to abandon his match against Joseph Brailovsky at No. 4 singles, wins at No. 6 singles followed by a three-set victory at No. 2 singles clinched the win for UGA at 4-1.
Jubb overcame a 6-2 loss in his opening set to win a second-set tiebreak 7-4. Jubb then went on to finish off 20th-ranked Reinberg, his 10th dual-match win of the season.
South Carolina will be back in action at home on Thursday against Kentucky at 4 p.m. ET. Carolina will then get set to host Vanderbilt at the Carolina Tennis Center on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
