Sellman Named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina junior Madison Sellman has been named the equestrian Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year as announced Saturday evening.
Hailing from Honeoye Falls, N.Y., Sellman is majoring in biological sciences. Sellman has maintained a 4.0 throughout her five completed semesters at the University of South Carolina. She is also on track to finish with a 4.0 this semester as well.
Freshman year, Sellman was named to the 2016-17 Frist-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll. With her 4.0, Sellman has been on the President’s List, AD Honor Roll, SEC Honor Roll and NCEA Honor Roll every semester since her freshman year.
Sellman also excels in the arena as a starter for the Gamecocks. After competing in 15 meets for Equitation on the Flat this season, Sellman has a record of 8-6-1 and one MOP. In Equitation Over Fences she is 6-4 and has one MOP.
In Carolina’s upset of Georgia in the fall, Sellman earned a four-point win in fences, being awarded MOP at the end of the meet. She also earned a win in the Gamecocks’ upset of Baylor with a fences victory.
This weekend at the SEC Championship, Sellman earned one flat victory and two fences wins.
