Hall Named SEC Freshman Men's Golfer of the Week
He finished second in his spring debut at the Wofford Invitational (April 1-2)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Freshman Ryan Hall was named SEC Men’s Freshman Golfer of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. It is the first career weekly award for the highly-touted, first-year player.
He is fresh off a career-best, second place finish at the Wofford Invitational (April 1-2) in which he shot 209 (-7). Hall fired a second round 65 (-7), a new career-low score which is also T-2nd lowest 18-hole score by a freshman in program history. He tied for the field lead with 17 birdies at The Country Club of Spartanburg.
Hall was making his spring debut at the event, as he’s been sidelined with a wrist injury since early February. He’s one of two freshman to rank in the top-25 of the SEC Player Rankings via Golfstat.
The runner-up medalist finish marked the first career top-five for Hall. The Knoxville, Tenn., native started all five events in the fall with three top-20 finishes and a 71.08 scoring average for the nationally ranked Gamecocks, which was second-best on the team behind only senior Scott Stevens.
No. 19 South Carolina returns to action this weekend at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 6-7). Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. For more info on the event, visit the tournament website by clicking here.
