COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 10 South Carolina women’s golf will travel to Athens, Ga., this week for the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The event runs from April 11-13 and begins with 18 holes of stroke play before the field is broken down into two match-play brackets.

“We just have to do the things we have been doing,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “We’ve really tightened up the short game. This is a busy time of the year. We have two weeks a row before finals and then regionals. We’ve got a lot of really good and positive things going. We’ve played a lot of really great golf this spring.”

The final regular season tune-up tournament will be a great way for the Gamecocks to prep for the 2019 SEC Championships, which will take place from April 17-21 and is also a mix of stroke and match play.

The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is set up as a par-72 and spans 6,401 yards and is in its sixth year in its current format. The Gamecocks will be paired with Louisville in the opening round, with tee times ranging from 9:50-10:26 a.m.

The Gamecocks return to the event for the first time since 2017, when they finished 2-1 in the match play format. Then-sophomore Marion Veysseyre finished with three wins during the 2017 event, defeating opponents from Purdue, Troy and Old Dominion.

The field includes four teams ranked inside Golfstat’s top-25, and includes three of the four highest ranked SEC squads. Teams participating in the 2019 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic are Alabama (No. 21), Arkansas (No. 6), Augusta (No. 54), Daytona State, Denver (No. 72), Florida (No. 11), Georgia (No. 39), Iowa (No. 128), Kennesaw State (No. 37), Louisville (No. 42), Ole Miss (No. 36) and South Carolina.

Eight top-50 individuals can potentially hit the course during the event, including Carolina’s top ranked individual, No. 9 Emily Price. The Ludlow, England, native has been outstanding throughout her freshman campaign, holding a stroke average of 73.00, which currently is the best stroke average by a freshman in South Carolina history.

In their last outing, the Gamecocks finished in a tie for eighth at the Evans Derby Experience in Auburn, Ala. Price finished in the top 20 for the fourth time in five appearances this season, highlighted by a 1-under 71 in her second round.
