No. 7 Carolina’s Team Title Run Comes to an End in Quarterfinals
WACO, Texas – South Carolina senior Madison Brayman and freshman Grady Lyman went undefeated in the Gamecocks’ NCEA Championships quarterfinals loss, 10-6, to Texas A&M on Thursday at the Extraco Events Center.
Starting the day with Equitation on the Flat, Lyman defeated Brianna Peddicord, 237-232, on Puzzle. Following, Brayman tallied the highest score of the day in all four flat brackets with her, 244-233, victory against Rhian Murphy on Rosie. The two Gamecock wins split the event with the Aggies, 2-2.
“Things didn’t go the way we wanted them to,” head coach Boo Major said. “We had some unfortunate events that happened here and there. When you get at this level sometimes you just have to say, ‘Oh well,’ and have to buck it up and ride better or figure out what your mistakes were and try to improve.”
In Equitation Over Fences, Lyman notched her second win of the meet with a 65-point victory over Grace Boston on Caraway, 249-184. Finishing out the event, Brayman collected a, 235-208, win on Ritz opposite of Rebekah Chenelle. With their two victories, Carolina and Texas A&M tied in the event, 2-2.
The Gamecocks and Aggies also split Reining, 2-2. First, Madison Thiel claimed a, 212.5-211, win against Ashton Dunkel on Ben. Closing out the entire meet, Bridgett White won her point, 201.5-198, defeating Darby Gardner on Smooch.
In Horsemanship, the Gamecocks rode tight with the Aggies, but were not able to notch a point, falling, 4-0.
