Four Gamecocks Named WGCA All-American Scholars
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Four South Carolina women’s golfers have been named 2018-19 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, the organization announced Monday morning. Senior Marion Veysseyre and juniors Lois Kaye Go, Ana Pelaez and Anita Uwadia each earned the distinction.
The 2018-19 All-America Scholar Team includes 1,097 women’s collegiate golfers who maintained at least a 3.50 GPA. This year marks the third selection for Veysseyre, Pelaez and Uwadia. For Go, it is the second time she’s earned the honor as a Gamecock.
A native of Cebu City, Philippines, Go capped off the 2018-19 season by being named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American. She completed the 2018-19 campaign with a scoring average of 72.82, the eighth-best single-season scoring average in program history. She helped Team International win the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup in early June and was a gold medalist at the 2018 Asian Games. As a member of the All-SEC First Team, Go finished fifth at the SEC Championships and had her best finish at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, where she finished in third.
In her junior campaign, Pelaez finished with a 74.89 stroke average in 10 tournaments for the Gamecocks. The Malaga, Spain, native was one of the strongest performers in match play during the 2018-19 season, finishing 4-1-1, and is 8-3-1 in her career. In her three seasons at South Carolina, Pelaez has earned an All-American honor, won the 2017 NCAA Columbus Regional and was a 2017 Second Team All-SEC honoree.
Uwadia competed in all 10 tournaments for the Gamecocks in 2018-19. The Newcastle, United Kingdom, native was the Gamecocks’ strongest competitor in match play, finishing an undefeated 6-0-0, including a 3-0-0 record at the 2019 SEC Championships. She completed her junior season on a high note, carding a 3-under 69 to tie her career-best 18-hole score at the 2019 NCAA Cle Elum Regional.
Veysseyre wrapped up her career with the Gamecocks with a 74.64 stroke average during her senior season where she played in all 10 tournaments. In 2018-19, Veysseyre registered the best finish of her career at the Landfall Tradition, using a 2-under 70 in the second round to help finish in a tie for sixth. The Lachapelle-Auzac, France, native participated in 110 rounds of golf with the Gamecocks, and leaves with the 10th best career scoring average in program history.
The Gamecocks closed their 2018-19 campaign ranked No. 12 by Golfstat in their 12th season under head coach Kalen Anderson.
