Miles, Stachler and Stevens Named All-American Scholars

Trio finished Gamecock careers with 3.7 or higher cumulative GPAs

NORMAN, Okla. — Will Miles, Ryan Stachler and Scott Stevens were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on Wednesday. The trio recently graduated in May after distinguished careers both on and off the golf course.
 
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate’s Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
 
Miles, Stachler and Stevens all finished their academic careers with cumulative 3.7 or higher GPAs. Miles and Stevens were both named All-America Scholars last season as well.
 
The Gamecocks have now had 28 GCAA All-American Scholars under head coach Bill McDonald since 2007. Carolina has also earned a GCAA Team Academic Award (cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or higher) every year since 2009, earning special recognition (cumulative team GPA of 3.5 or higher) three consecutive years from 2016-18.
 
Stevens, who started every tournament the past four seasons for Carolina, finished his career one of the top players in program history. His 71.57 career scoring average is the lowest mark all-time and his 20-career top-10 finishes are T-3rd most all-time. Stevens had a stellar final season in Garnet and Black, leading the team in scoring average (70.59), rounds of par or better (26), top-five finishes (3), top-10 finishes (5) and top-20 finishes (10). The 2019 First Team All-SEC selection helped lead the Gamecocks back to the NCAA Championship this season. He T-3rd at the NCAA Pullman Regional after matching a career 54-hole low, shooting 198 (-12) at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. He was named a PING Third Team All-American and Golfweek Third Team All-American. Stevens recently qualified for the 2019 U.S. Amateur next month at Pinehurst.
 
Miles, who was named a Third Team All-American by Golfweek, had a standout final season on the course with career-best numbers across the board. His 70.97 scoring average was second on the team as well as his 22 rounds of par or better and seven top-20 finishes. The Hilton Head Island, S.C., native, won twice in the spring while also leading the Gamecocks to a team win as well both times. He shot a career-low 197 (-13) en route to a nine-shot win for his first college victory at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 11-12). The 197 T-2nd lowest 54-hole score in school history. He won again at the Southern Intercollegiate (April 15), the team’s final event of the regular season in Athens, Ga. Miles, an All-SEC selection like Stevens, fired a 66 (-6) in the final round at NCAA Regionals to help lead Carolina back to the NCAA Championship.
 
Stachler also finished his career on a high note, competing in 11 events while finishing the season with a career-best scoring average of 73.53, 19 rounds of par or better, six top-20 finishes, four top-10s and two top-fives. The Alpharetta, Ga., native, T-2nd at the Palmetto Intercollegiate to help the team to its historic, record-setting 35-shot win. He posted a career-best 54-hole total of 206 (-4) with a 65 (-5) in the second round. Stachler notched another top-five in a loaded 15-team field at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational after stringing together three-straight rounds under par. He was forced to sit out the entire 2017-18 season after undergoing hip surgery.
