Gamecocks boast highest GPA in Conference USA in 2018-19
Seventh time Carolina has accomplished the feat since 2005
DALLAS, TEXAS —- South Carolina men’s soccer continued its long-standing tradition of success in the classroom as it earned the 2019 Conference USA Sport Academic Award for men’s soccer, the league office announced this week. The award is bestowed upon the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year.
Having posted a 3.521 team GPA during the 2018-19 academic year, the Gamecocks took home the conference’s highest GPA for men’s soccer for the third-straight year and finished with a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the tenth-straight season.
Since joining the league in 2005, this marks the seventh time (2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2016-17, 2017-18) Carolina has led C-USA men’s soccer in team GPA.
The recognition continues another year of the Gamecocks standing out in the classroom as all 25 players on the 2018 roster were named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or higher) for the academic year. Seven student-athletes received C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medals (3.75 GPA or higher).
During the time Carolina has been a member of C-USA, it has averaged 23 student-athletes on the league’s academic honor roll with an average of seven medal winners each year.
South Carolina opens 2019 with exhibition play on Aug. 17 against Duke while the regular season opens Aug. 30 at Clemson. The home opener is set for Sept. 3 against Gardner-Webb.
