Carolina Blows Past Wofford In Exhibition
Gamecocks score seven-unanswered goals to secure the victory
COLUMBIA, S.C.— South Carolina men’s soccer scored seven unanswered goals in a 7-1 exhibition victory over Wofford at Stone Stadium on Wednesday. The Terriers scored five minutes into the contest, but the Gamecocks responded with two first-half goals and five in the second period as they earned their first friendly victory of 2019 in front of a sellout crowd.
23 Gamecocks recorded minutes in the contest, marking the second-straight time Carolina reached that mark.
Tucker Monheimer scored his first goal of the season in exhibition play at the 17th minute to tie the contest at 1-1. Zach Kirkwood continued the scoring less than seven minutes later to push the lead to 2-1 at halftime.
Monheimer wasn’t done, though, as he pushed across his second finish of the night just six minutes into the second period to extend the Carolina lead to 3-1 over the Terriers.
For the second-straight exhibition, freshman Brian Banahan scored twice, as well. His goals at the 70th and 77th minutes mixed with Logan Frost’s goal at the 75th minute gave the Gamecocks a 6-1 lead with 15 minutes left in the match.
Seth Wiebusch notched the final goal in the 81st minute for the Gamecocks to secure the 7-1 win over the Terriers.
South Carolina will face UNC Wilmington for its last exhibition match on the road Sunday at 2 p.m. ET for the season.
