Gamecocks Earn 13 PRs at Adidas XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s cross country team came in second at the Adidas XC Challenge with its top-13 performers posting PRs on Friday evening at the WakeMed Soccer Park.

Heather Stone finished as the third collegiate runner and fifth overall with a time of 17:14.2, topping her previous PR by over 13 seconds. Brooke Wilson was the next Gamecock to come across the line at 18:12.9, crushing her PR by 45 seconds. Finishing in a pack of five, Anna Kathryn Stoddard, Maryah Nasir, Cheyenne Young, Kelsey Larkin and Hillary Neely all passed their previous best times. Along with that pack, six more Gamecocks set personal bests.

“Really pleased with Heather being the third collegian in the race and having another outstanding race, running the third-fastest time in school history,” cross country coach Andrew Allden said. “Having your top-seven PR is something, as a coach, you can only dream about so I’m really excited about that.

“This is a very legitimate course and frankly it’s pretty hard with two really steep climbs in it. I think our PRs are really legitimate PRs, which the ladies can walk away feeling really proud of the times they laid down (Friday).”

With the slew of great times Friday evening, Stone earned the third-fastest time in school history. Entering the list with her time, Wilson now owns the 24th spot. Stoddard moved up seven spots to 28th on the list. Also claiming a spot on the top-times list were Nasir (31st), Young (32nd) and Larkin (36th).
