No. 22 Gamecocks in Fifth After Two Rounds of Graeme McDowell Inv.

Caleb Proveaux shot a second round 68 (-4) and sits T-7th at 3-under overall

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — No. 22 South Carolina is in fifth place after 36 holes of the 2019 Graeme McDowell Invitational. The Gamecocks fired rounds of 293 (+5) and 291 (+3) on Tuesday at the Greystone Founders Course. Senior Caleb Proveaux is T-7th at 3-under overall.
 
“It was a tough day for us as a team but Caleb (Proveaux) played really well,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “We look good at times, but this team has a lot of work to do and hopefully tomorrow we can put a good round together.”
 
Proveaux opened with a 1-over 73 this morning and he followed that up with a 4-under 68 in the second round that featured six birdies. The Lexington, S.C., native, shot 34 (-2) on both the front nine and back nine in round two.
 
Junior Jack Parrott is T-27th at 2-over after a pair of 73s. The Columbia, S.C., native, had five birdies in round one and three in round two. He was 1-under in the second round before a double-bogey at the par-5 second hole late in his round with two holes to play.
 
Senior Jamie Wilson paced the Gamecocks in the first round this morning, shooting an even par 72. The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native, closed with an eagle on his final hole, the 526-yard, par-5 18th. Wilson was 2-over in the second round before a double bogey at 18. He’s T-40th at 4-over heading into the final round.
 
Sophomore Ryan Hall is T-53rd at 8-over after rounds of 78 (+6) and 74 (+2). Freshman Jack Wall is T-60th at 9-over after shooting 75 (+3) and 78 (+6). Sophomore Harry Corbin is playing as an individual this week. He’s T-83rd (+13) after rounds of 82 (+10) and 75 (+3).
 
North Florida has a 1-shot lead over host UAB in the team race at 12-under. The Ospreys and Memphis shot field-best 276s (-12) in the second round late this afternoon. Ben Reichert, the three-man in the Blazer lineup, and Linus Lo of Western Kentucky are tied for the 36-hole individual lead at 6-under.
 
Wall will lead things off for Carolina in the final round tomorrow morning at 9:50 a.m. ET on hole one.
