Gamecocks Set To Play Host To ODU

Carolina in the middle of three-match home streak

COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina men’s soccer stays within friendly confines this Saturday as it plays host to conference foe Old Dominion at Stone Stadium. Gates will open one hour before the 7:00 p.m. kickoff. 
 
Game day parking is available for fans in the Heyward Street Garage located at 1300 Heyward Street. Parking is free of charge in this location and is available on all levels on a first-come, first-served basis. Handicap parking is also located at designated spaces within the Heyward Street Garage. An elevator is located within the garage for fans who will need to access the elevator to get to the ground level.
 
There are two entry gates for fans to enter Stone Stadium, located at Whaley Street and Heyward Street.
 
The Gamecocks will look to carry over the momentum from a 4-2 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday night. With the win, Carolina improved to 5-0 at Stone Stadium this season. 

Tuesday night’s match was a thriller from start to finish as CJ Mitchell-Smith’s second goal of the season, and contest, at the 62-minute mark and later Brian Banahan’s second finish of the night pushed the Gamecocks to the 4-2 win to snap a two-match losing streak. 
 
Senior Tucker Monheimer will look to continue his quick start to his final year in the Garnet and Black on Saturday. Monheimer has finished four of the team’s 12 goals this year, three of which were game winners. 
 
Head coach Mark Berson enters his 42nd season as head coach for Carolina. He’s been the only coach for the program since its first season in 1978. He is the active wins leader in NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer with 512 career victories and is one of just four coaches all-time to hit the 500-win plateau.

 ODU SERIES NOTES

  • Old Dominion leads the all-time series 7-5-0 and has won three of the past four matches. 
  • Carolina is 3-1 at Stone Stadium in the history of the series that dates back to 1983.
  • The Gamecocks’ last win in the series came in 2017 at home with a 3-2 win. 
  • ODU has outscored the Gamecocks 19-16 all-time. 
  • Carolina will be looking for its first goal in the series since 2017. 

ODU SCOUT

  • ODU has started with a tough schedule on its way to a 1-6-1 record, including an 0-2-1 mark in conference play. 
  • Old Dominion comes in with a three-match losing streak. 
  • ODU has been outscored 19-8 thus far. 
  • The lone win of the season came on Sept. 17 against VCU. 
  • Deniz Dogan leads the team with eight points.
