Gamecocks Host Auburn for “Toni Day Day”
Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team returns home to host the Auburn Tigers on Friday. The meet also serves as a celebration of the life of Toni Day, the Gamecock staff member that worked with the equestrian team for the last five years and with the athletics department for 13 years. The meet gets underway at 2 p.m. on Friday at OneWood Farm in Blythewood.
Celebrating Toni Day
The University of South Carolina athletics family lost a beloved family member last week with the passing of Toni Day. A lifelong Gamecock fan, Day began her tenure working with the Gamecocks in 2006 in the Gamecock Club, eventually becoming the administrative assistant for the equestrian team five years ago. Though the team and department are heartbroken over the loss of Toni, Friday’s meet is a celebration of Toni Day’s life.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink along with their garnet and black, and pink breast cancer awareness ribbons will be available at the marketing table. Toni’s family will also be in attendance and help pass out the Most Outstanding Player awards at the end of the meet. Even if fans can’t make it to the meet they’re encouraged to wear pink and post a picture on social media using the hashtag #Ride4Toni.
