Gareis Named to SEC Community Service Team
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior forward Ryan Gareis has been named to the SEC Community Service Team for the first time, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Gareis, who has started in 15 of South Carolina’s 16 matches this season, has shown a passion for helping out in the community. She has taken part in a variety of events and found ways to help people of all ages.
The Naperville, Ill., native has been involved with Best Buddies and Special Olympics Gymnastics in Columbia, South Carolina. She has volunteered at a family store and has done volunteer coaching with soccer teams in the Naperville, Ill. area.
On the field, Gareis has scored four goals and assisted on three more in 2019. She notched the game-winning goal against Kentucky on Oct. 10 and assisted on the game-winning goal against Missouri. She’s scored eight goals in her almost three seasons at South Carolina and has assisted on five more. Her .607 career shot on goal percentage is the highest on the team.
No. 8 South Carolina (12-1-3, 6-0-3 SEC) will play in the final match of the regular season on Thur., Oct. 31, against Auburn on the road at 8 p.m. on SEC Network (whip around) and SEC Network +.
