South Carolina Finishes Fifth at Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic
Ryan Hall shot a final round 66 (-5) to finish third at 13-under for the tournament
LAHAINA, Hawaii – South Carolina finished fifth at the 2019 Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic in its final event of the fall season on Sunday. The Gamecocks fired a 10-under 274 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 820 (-32).
Sophomore Ryan Hall paced Carolina with a 66 (-5) as he finished solo third at 13-under overall for the tournament. The Knoxville, Tenn., native, was 7-under at one point thanks to five birdies and an eagle in a seven-hole stretch on holes six through 12. It marks Hall’s third career top-five and his second this fall. He notched his first collegiate win Oct. 1 at the J.T. Poston Invitational. He led the team with 17 birdies this week at the Ka’anapali Royal Course.
Freshman Jack Wall fired his second-straight round of 68 (-3) on Sunday. The Brielle, N.J., native, T-18th at 7-under overall. It marks Wall’s second career top-20 in five starts this fall. He had 15 red numbers this week, which was second on the team behind Hall.
“The guys gave it their best today, and it was a pretty good tournament for us,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “We struggled to make some putts early in the round and that ended up costing us. Ryan (Hall) was great this week and I’m really impressed with how Jack Wall has played this fall. We have improved overall as a team and I’m looking forward to seeing what these guys can accomplish in the spring.”
Senior Jamie Wilson finished just outside the top-10 on the leaderboard after a final round 69 (-2). The Mount Pleasant, S.C., native, T-12th at 8-under par. He’s been the most consistent Gamecock this fall with four top-20s in five starts, matching a single-season career high set during the 2018-19 season. Wilson has 10 career top-20s in 30 starts.
Junior Jack Parrott was the final counting score with an even par 71. The Columbia, S.C., native, had 16 pars, a birdie and a bogey on his scorecard Sunday. He T-65th at 2-over. Senior Caleb Proveaux carded a 3-over 74 in the final round and finished the tournament T-70th at 3-over par.
No. 5 Oklahoma came from behind to win by five shots over No. 18 Washington. The Sooners posted the round of the tournament with a 21-under 263 to finish at 47-under overall. Trent Phillips of Georgia won the individual crown over OU’s Quade Cummins with a birdie on the seventh playoff hole. The duo each carded 54-hole scores of 193 (-20).
