Eniya Russell Signs with South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced that Eniya Russell (pronounced ih-NYE-uh) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. The Baltimore, Md., native will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2020-21 academic year.

“Eniyah is going to make a huge impression,” Staley said. “She’ll be a crowd favorite for us with her ability to dazzle passing the basketball. She’ll keep defenses honest with her ability to shoot deep 3s, to get to the basket and her pull-up game is second to none.”

A 6-foot guard, Russell is rated No. 43 in the Class of 2020 by espnW. Playing for Institute of Notre Dame the last two season, she earned All-Metro honors from the Baltimore Sun both seasons, including first-team honors in 2018-19. As a junior last season, she posted four 30-point games to finish the campaign with a team-high 20 points per game to go with five rebounds and five assists per outing. Russell will close out her high school career at Saint Vincent Pallotti this season.

Russell is the first signee of Staley’s 2020 class.
