2020 Williams-Brice Stadium Project to Fund Future Fan Enhancements

by Brad Muller, Director of Content

South Carolina’s upcoming renovations at Williams-Brice Stadium will not only be ready for the 2020 football season, but the $22.5 million investment is a commitment to a better fan experience that will be felt for years to come.

In addition to providing affordable club seating options, the 2020 renovation plans also clear the way for a variety of exciting future investments which will greatly improve fundamental issues facing the stadium today. This includes utilizing spaces previously occupied by the football program for a more fan-friendly experience in terms of concourse and concessions traffic flow, access to amenities such as air-conditioned areas, and more restroom facilities.

Thanks in part to the resources generated from this project, South Carolina Athletics is committed to enhancing the game day experience.  Over the past decade, fans have enjoyed the addition of Gamecock Park, a new video board, the beautiful Spring-Brooks Plaza and historical features like the Wall of Captains and George Rogers statue.

Now, we look forward to tackling a series of in-stadium projects which will transform the game day experience.  These investments include the addition of new ribbon boards, LED lighting within the seating bowl, a new stadium-wide sound system, and eventually, a new video board.

While these audio-visual improvements will be priority investments in the immediate future of Williams-Brice Stadium, there are a variety of important improvements coming online next season that have garnered less attention.  Most notable are the improvements to the east, west and south club areas which will bring about a significant increase in the number of handicap seats in the stadium, including additional ADA seats available to students and other patrons on the east side.

The east ground level will also experience expanded availability of restroom facilities as a part of the project.  This represents just one step in a series of efforts to improve the lavatory situation in Williams-Brice Stadium moving forward. Additionally, through the overhaul of the new east club concourse, 3,000 patrons will be removed from using the existing east club/upper deck concourse, which should significantly reduce the strain on the amenities on this level.

South Carolina Athletics will have more information coming soon to explain more of the specific changes for the 2020 renovations project at Williams-Brice Stadium, including a focus on affordable club seating and discounts for those currently seated in areas that will be impacted by the project.
