Samantha Chang Named to Canadian U20 Camp
COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina women’s soccer redshirt freshman Samantha Chang has been named to the Canadian U-20 Women’s National Team camp in Burnaby, British Columbia. The team is in preparation for the 2020 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship that will take place in early 2020.
Chang, who has been with the Gamecocks for two seasons now, completed her first season on the field for the Gamecocks in 2019 after returning from an ACL injury that kept her out of the 2018 season. The call up is her first since returning from injury. Chang scored two goals and had three assists for the Gamecocks in 2019 and was named the All-SEC Freshman Team.
“I’m extremely excited to be called back into camp and get the chance to train with my fellow Canadians and under the amazing coaching staff,” Chang said. “I know most of the girls from previous camps so it’ll be really nice to see them again. This is my first camp back in the system since coming back from my injury so I’m really happy that the work I put in all season has led to this opportunity. The team is also preparing for world cup qualifiers in February, so I just want to go and really play my game and then go from there.”
Chang joins South Carolina great Sabrina D’Angelo and as Gamecocks to be named to various levels of the Canadian National team. Chang had success with the Canadian youth programs before she arrived at South Carolina. She represented Canada and participated in the U17 FIFA World Cup in Jordan in 2016 and won medals at the 2016 Concacaf U-17 championship and the 2014 Concacaf U-15 Championship.
