Fisk Signs Pro Deal with West Ham United

She becomes the first Gamecock to play in FA Women's Super League

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Just a short time after graduating the University of South Carolina, former defender Grace Fisk has officially signed a contract with the FA Women’s Super League squad West Ham United.

“I am so excited to join West Ham United” Fisk said. “Once I came and had a look at the set up here, I know straight away that [West Ham] was where I would want to come and play.”

The team, headquartered in London, England, is about halfway through their 2019-20 season and hold a record of 3-5-1 and sit in eighth place with 10 points. Fisk will become the first Gamecock to play in the FA Women’s Super League that include teams such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and many more high quality teams.

The team was formed in 1991 and play home matches at Rush Green Stadium at the West Ham United Training Ground in Romford. Matt Beard is the head coach of the squad and has been since the 2018 season when he came over from the Boston Breakers of the NWSL.

“Grace is a player who I’ve watched and tracked since my time with Boston Breakers and I am delighted she has decided to join us at West Ham,” Beard said. “She is a young, very talented defender with a maturity far beyond her years and she is already recognized within the England set up, such is her ability.”

Fisk was the anchor of the Gamecocks back line in 2019 that led the country with 17 clean sheets along with setting the single-season program record. The 0.32 goals against average was the best in program history and the second best in the country. Fisk also contributed in two major wins for the Gamecocks during the season, highlighted by her game-winning goal against Kansas to help Carolina advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in four years.

Fisk has had plenty of work in England’s soccer system. She played for Millwall Lionesses FC during her youth career and has been a member of England’s women’s national teams at the U15, U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels as well as participating in camps at every level including the full senior national team. Fisk even captained the U20 squad who captured a bronze medal at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in 2018.
